It's a choppy read, without references, and has as such attracted mixed reviews. But I still liked this offering from Grimassi. He bundles a lot of ideas and images from different systems together, which while that would annoy many, I'm okay with as I tend to see 'the image' as the primary conduit for spiritual truths. He includes a number of rites at the end, which should serve well as a start point in honouring the ancestors, as well as beginning to heal our ancestral wounds or karmicI slogged through this, every time I walked away thinking "Maybe I'm just in a bad mood" and every time I came back to it finding out "No, this really isn't the book for me." And maybe it is for someone, but it's not mine. I have to say I'm very disappointed. The vast majority of this book is a mishmash of different beliefs from radically different cultures mixed together in a way that would make a contestant on "America's Worst Cooks" wince. I understand completely the value of syncretism - my
I wanted to like this, but I really didnt. Generally I find Grimassi has a really approachable tone, and he does, if not overly poetic (which I personally dont care for), but it felt like he only knew how he did ancestor work and then tried to get too theoretical about it with concepts he didnt really know much about (which is fine, just dont include them). This book was too broad, and too vague. As soon as you start referencing the ancients without specifying which ones, or answering how you

One of the most beautiful things about Raven Grimassi as a teacher and an author is the depth that he brings forward to share with the pagan and witchcraft communities. His contributions as a much loved and respected elder through his writings are unlike anyone else. Often presenting research on ancient concepts, myths, lore and practices he also breathes new life into them with his wisdom, experience and innovation. His latest book Communing with the Ancestors: Your Spirit Guides, Bloodline
