Commentary Toward Books The Unloved
Lush, a deceptively tranquil, the secluded island basks in splendid isolation off the South Carolina coast--as does the Devereaux mansion, a once-great plantation house now crumbling amidst the ancient oaks. Now, for the first time in two decades, Kevin Devereaux has returned here with his wife and children to visit Kevin's hated, and frightening mother. She said she was ill--but is that really why the old woman has summoned the son she has not seen in so many years? Suddenly, horribly, one of the Devereauxs is going to die. And now, all the dark secrets of this once-proud family will emerge to wrap their evil around the unsuspecting children. Until, in the shadowed corridors and dust-covered rooms of the decaying old house, they learn the true terror of The Unloved.Rating Out Of Books The Unloved

great book that does a good job of setting a gloomy gothic atmosphere. Very engrossing and thrilling with a ghoulish and explosive endingWhen Kevin Devereaux finds out his elderly mother (Helena) is dying he decides to go back home to Sea Oaks (a mansion which is on a secluded island off the South Carolina coast) for a brief stay with his wife Anne, his daughter Julie, and his son Jeff. He hasnt been back there for twenty years. (He left Sea Oaks because he has never liked his mean, malevolent mother and wanted to get away from her dominating presence.) When they arrive they meet Kevins sister, Marguerite, and Kevins cruel
Reader beware! You're in for a long and arduous experience. 🙄I remember reading John Saul as a teenager and really enjoyed his work. I found this book in a thrift shop and thought what the hey. Quick summary: Kevin and his family visit his childhood home in the south where he (and his sister) have had dramatic experiences involving their hateful mother. He ends up deciding to stay and renovate the place against the wishes of his wife; then, of course, horrible events begin to take place. I love
Of all the amazing books I've read since finally becoming active on Goodreads, I can't believe this is the first one I'm actually writing a review on. I was an avid reader of John Saul back in my late teens. Of course, I struggle to remember anything I actually read back then, but I now have a 17 year old daughter who is going through the "horror genre" stage, and I've been looking through lists trying to remember the books I read back then. I got all nostalgic when reading some of the
This wasn't the best John Saul book I've read it it wasn't terrible. Just ok.
Well, this book was good up until the last 100 pages. The town was walking around with blinders on and suddenly everyone was stuttering and stammering every sentence. That and the flaws surrounding one of the characters action were implausible. If someone in their mid fifties has a lame leg and is nearly crippled by it, I can assure they are NOT going to be flitting about killing people younger, faster and stronger than them. It was like the classic horror movie cliché; victim is running faster
