Judge Based On Books Ricasoli Soldier: A Novel Inspired by True Events

This was quite difficult to get into at first .However once past the first few chapters ,I was completely absorbed .This is not the sort of book I would normally read ,however the setting of Malta and the romance within it allowed me to learn a little about military life.I was quite shocked (but not surprised, )to read how harsh and horribly cruel life was for the soldiers in the army as recently as 1806

Really enjoyed this book and just had to read it a couple of times, as the intertwined romantic plot with the actual military history of Malta was quite gripping and masterfully written. Very good novel but do not read it at nighttime, or you will remain up all night trying to finish it.

Ricasoli Soldier is set in the early 1800s on the Mediterranean island of Malta. It follows the story of a young man called Leo who is starting out in the British Army as a soldier. Initially there was quite a bit of detail on the history of the area and the army at that time. However as I carried on with the book, it turned into a brilliant story about life in Malta for a soldier in the British Army as well as love and friendship.The author was very good at interweaving fact with fiction and

Leo left his native Sicily in 1806 to serve in the British Army in the Mediterranean island of Malta. All he had then were dreams and ambitions of youth.
