My first Nora Roberts novel...truly a milestone.In "Who's Afraid of Happy Endings?" there's a clip of Nora Roberts describing an encounter with a woman who, upon learning Roberts' identity, said "Oh, you write that smut." Nora's response? "No, I do not write smut. What the hell is wrong with you?"My instant response was to think Lady, lighten up -- how can you write romance and still be that easily offended? Nora books can be so hit or miss even in my limited experience, and this one was a hit. It's not my favorite Nora, but it was hard to put down with a fantastic cast and a less expected plot. I'm going to make a stupid comparison here, but it's very much like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo Nora Roberts style (which is stupid because this book came out over twenty years before but I read that one first so whatever).Genuine Lies takes place in the early nineties but focuses on Old Hollywood. Audio/CD/Romantic Suspense: I paid $2 for 16 disc's and I paid too much. When I hate a book, I pick at the continuity, as seen in my updates.Here's some more spoilers: Paul is allowed to go with his police buddy to interview a witness. Honestly did not see this going down the way it did. I cant wait to reread it knowing what I do
I actually haven't finished this one and I probably won't. There's quite a bit of vulgarity or should I say "adult themed material". I don't necessarily have a problem with the sex (it's not that descriptive), but the kind of people portrayed often make me want to hope and wish that real peole like that don't actually exist. I obviously don't enjoy reading about them. I can't believe I read as much as I did.
I love Nora, but I found this book difficult to read
