No Promises in the Wind by Irene Hunt was an okay book, but it didnt deserve to be an award-winner. The best word to describe it would be mediocre. There wasnt anything terribly wrong with it - but there wasnt anything terribly right with it, either. It was a bit interesting but not terribly. The emotions were there but not vivid. The writing was average but not amazing. The characters were believable but not truly three-dimensional or the kind you can root for.There are some great themes in

I find it an extremely simple, tedious, dull book. I did not enjoy it.

I decided that I wanted to reread some of the books that I read 40-50 years ago that had an impression on me and made me a reader for life. Where the Red Fern Grows was one of these books, as well as this one (and several others). It has been fun to revisit my younger self through these books, and I plan to read a few more.

I'm stunned. I've read thousands of books over the years. Several have moved me. A few became my favorites. This will be ranked among my "few." The characters and setting were well developed. However, the story shook my world. Previously, I read many others by Irene Hunt and thoroughly enjoyed them. Looking for books to send to my oldest grandson, I gave this one a try. I'm so glad I did and hope my grandson enjoys it as much as I do. I'll probably send it to all my grands 11 and older. It's

Really well-written book that immersed you in a time that someone my age could never imagine. The story does a great job at addressing realistic subjects like homelessness, being a sole provider, and how experiences can change someone's outlook on life. This book was AWESOME! I listened to in on Hoopla and it got to the point where I didn't want to stop listening. The only thing I regret is how short it is - I wish it was longer. The book is about growing up during the Great Depression and it really makes you appreciate all we have and take for granted. This is NOT a boring book, or a book you have to force yourself to get through -it is a very good story with plenty of characters that you end up caring greatly for.

This book talks about the hardships america went through during the great depression.people became jobless and could no longer afford to fed their families.Conflicts arose in most families forcing children to run away from home and look for greener pastures but this was all in vain because no one was willing to support anyone who wasn't even family.josh had to come back to his senses , nomatter how hard times are there is no place like home
